WHO WE ARE
Michael Finch, MBA, is retired Air Force officer and C-17 pilot and the founder of Finch Wealth Management, a Registered Investment Advisory Firm. Finch Wealth Management’s sole mission is to help military members, both individuals and families, strive to achieve financial independence. The firm's expertise is in understanding the unique financial opportunities and challenges military service brings. Specifically, we specialize in helping military members during three distinct phases of which financial planning can have the largest impact. Military families that are young and preparing for the future, those approaching military retirement and those serving in a second career. The firm serves clients virtually as a fiduciary, always acting in our clients’ best interests and providing them with evidence-based investment management services.
Michael earned his undergraduate degree in Finance and his MBA with a concentration in Finance from the Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona. He later served as an adjunct professor teaching finance and accounting at Western New England College in Boston.
Life During Active Duty
While serving on active duty, Mike earned two additional masters’ degrees: a Master of Science from the Air Force Institute of Technology and a Master in Strategic Studies from the US Army War College.
Mike served on active duty for 24 years flying multiple aircraft, including C-21s and C-17s. He commanded a deployed squadron in the Middle East, and later the Operations Group at Altus AFB, flying the C-17 & KC-135.
Mike and his wife, Jana, loved their time in the Air Force and still consider themselves a proud military family. They had their two sons, Luke and Charlie, while stationed at McGuire AFB, NJ. Jana left her career as a Nurse Practitioner just before their first son was born, and loved being actively involved as a military spouse. During their time on active duty, Jana started a home-based business and later returned to her medical career after the coupled retired from active duty.
Career Transition & Beginning Finch Wealth Management
Mike’s military career, military retirement, and transition to a second career have given him first-hand knowledge of the various financial decisions that come with a military pension, including the utilization of the Thrift Savings Plan, Survivor Benefit Plan, TRICARE, and GI Bill.
Finch Wealth Management typically constructs client portfolios with mutual funds, exchange-traded-funds (ETFs), and separately managed accounts (SMA) from Dimensional Fund Advisors (DFA)s. Charles Schwab Advisor Services or Altruist acts as custodian for client accounts.
